Microsoft Project Introduction - What will I cover?


By the end of the course you will have an understanding of the following features:


  1. Views: Use the Gantt, Network and other commonly used views to access different information
  2. Work Breakdown Schedule: Break down the project into manageable pieces – enter and modify the project tasks
  3. Task dependency: Link tasks, set task constraints and identify the critical path
  4. Resources: Resources and tasks - allocate resources to tasks, to identify overallocations. Maximise the use of your resources - resolve overallocations and conflicts
  5. Baselines and Tracking: Deal with project slippage – create a baseline and track the project
  6. Reports: Write up and chart project progress.
  7. Critical Paths - identify those tasks and activities that are critical to the success of the project
  8. Tracking - monitor progress through a project, taking action to deal with slipping deadlines
  9. Other links - transfer text and data into other software packages
  10. Importing and exporting data: Import and export project views and data to other applications, e.g. Excel
  11. Practical application: Understand how to apply the skills learnt on the course to work situations

Project Advanced  - What will I cover?

This course assumes you have basic knowledge of Project and will introduce advanced features.

By the end of the course you will have an understanding of the following features:


  1. Master projects: manage large projects by creating sub-projects, electronically linked to form the whole
  2. Filter and sort: use filters to create custom views and reports for specific deliverables
  3. Resource sharing: Share resources between project files
  4. Custom Filters: Create interactive multi-purpose custom filters
  5. Custom fields: Use custom fields for project-specific information, or drop-downs to facilitate user entry
  6. Calculated fields: Create automatically calculated fields using functions.
  7. Macros: Create Macros to speed up repetititve tasks.
  8. Web pages: Turn the project plan into a web page for easy viewing by all project stakeholders
  9. Drawing: Use drawing objects to enhance views and annotate printouts
  10. Templates: Save commonly used files as templates to decrease repetition
